Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) Roles & Responsibilities for the Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse

These guidelines provide direction to NPs and RNs about their role in participating in MAID.

These guidelines reflect a summary of the Canadian Nurses Association document National Nursing Framework on Medical Assistance in Dying in Canada, 2017, which CRNPEI believes provides a clear description of authority and responsibilities for NPs and RNs who may be considering whether to participate or to decline in the provision of MAID services on PEI. CRNPEI members must also adhere to employer policies and procedures before participating in MAID.
